Almost always alcohol and drugs come together. They have a strong relationship. If not all, people who are using alcohol also uses drugs. These two are the most common substances which are being abused by many. They are both central nervous depressant.There are different views as to why people are submitting themselves to alcohol and later on when alcohol is not enough for them sort to drugs as well.
One of the common factors considered in submitting self to drugs and alcohol is depression. They consider these two as relief of the burden that they are having as well as to decrease physical and emotional pain when they can't take their problems anymore. It starts with small amount but because of the repeated use of the substances usually results in dependency and compulsive drug taking behavior. And later cause them to struggle to fight drugs and alcohol dependency. The amounts and the periods of taking these two substances are more than was intended. They may have the desire to cut down the usage later on but they are unsuccessful to decrease and discontinue the use because of withdrawal symptoms they may experienced. Some other factors which triggers alcohol and drug use may be rebellion and peer pressure, grief and loss of someone or job.
Although people are aware of the consequences, people who became dependent with drugs and alcohol usually uses a defense mechanism called denial. They are not accepting to themselves that they are already dependent to the substances.They are pointing others who made them submit themselves to these unacceptable usage of drugs and alcohol.
Both alcohol and drugs causes unacceptable physical and psychological effects to the human body. Not only to self but also the community because of the manipulative and impulsive behavior a person may have. It is concluded that handling problems well and expressing feeling may help a person with alcohol and drug avoidance. You, too can help by becoming an active listener to them
